Temperature Quilt Project

Several years ago I came across a post about temperature quilts on Pinterest.  I thought they looked interesting, but at the time I had a long list of other projects that needed my attention.

There are quite a few patterns for sale on Etsy, but I did some digging on Pinterest and found this pattern for free.  It is very well written, with clear directions and diagrams.  There is a blank chart that you can use for your fabric selection and temperature range.

Well, I still have a long list of projects but I decided that this was the year I wanted to give this quilt a try.  I had a stack of solid color fat quarter packs that I had received from the Fat Quarter solids fat quarter club, so I knew I had a good range of colors to select from.  I labeled and laid all of them on the floor of my craft room.  Then came the fun of coming up with a temperature range and the colors that I would assign to them.

I decided to go with a 3 degree temperature range.  I used data from the Weather Underground website to look at the historical data for a where I live, to get a better idea of the temperature ranges over the course of a year.

Of course, being the OCD gal that I am, this called for it's own notebook to keep everything organized and a basket to keep all the project supplies organized!  The ziplock bags are my favorite ones from IKEA.

I've decided to sew the blocks once a week.  The really time consuming part of this project is all the cutting, but that's what I do as I watch a TV show on my IPad.  This first set of blocks only took me about 15 minutes to sew together.  I am excited to watch this quilt grow over the course of the year.

Drum roll.....here's the first week of January...

I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Toodles until next time.
