Tacos, Toccoa and too many books!

One of the many advantages of being retired, is waking up in the morning with a wild hair, getting in the car and just going!

Tom wanted to check out a local flea market on Hwy 11, just outside of Walhalla and then go to Toccoa, GA.   I still have to remind myself how close we are to the Georgia border and how in less than 30 minutes, we're in another state.  This is also true for how close we are to the North Carolina border too.

I am learning to never judge a flea market by it's first appearance and the first couple of stalls you see.  When we pulled up to this location, I'll admit I was thinking...

Well imagine my surprise when I come across two more pieces of Delft china.  Also, I've got to give Tom props for spotting one of them.  I've got him trained 😏

I found this mug for $5

Tom found this spoon rest for $1!

After scoring these bargains, we were off on our way to Toccoa!

This town is known for its downtown area and antique stores.  We spent several hours in just one of them!
The Cornerstone Antique and Craft Market  is HUGE, with three levels of booths full of everything under the sun!
We did a lot of looking and pointing out items that are now considered "vintage" that I clearly remember from my childhood - yep, makes you feel a tad bit old...

I thought this florist shop was just adorable.

On our way out of town, we came across an Ollies.  I love the book section in this store!  Tom dropped me off and ran to check out another store.  When he came back, I was still in the book section!  I was proud of my self restraint and only ended up buying three books.  If you have an Ollies near you, you have to check the store out just for its book section.  They have lots of other great bargains too.  It's one of those stores that you never know what you are going to find.  (No, I am not sponsored for this endorsement 😆)

We are also still trying out the eating establishments in our new hometown.  Several people have  recommended a Taco truck that is parked on Main Street.  The weather was beautiful on Friday, so we decided this would make a perfect lunch stop.

Just look at that presentation!  SOOOO MUCH better than anything Taco Bell has to offer.  They were absolutely scrumptious.  I see a return visit to this location in the very near future!

Toodles until next time...

Wednesday Walhalla Wonderland Update

We've been living in our new home for almost five months now.  We've been having fun exploring the area and today's adventure was to the Pickens County Flea Market.   This flea market is only on Wednesdays and it starts at 5 in the morning!  Yes, you read that right...5AM!  No, we didn't get their that early.  However, when we did arrive around 8am, the place was popping!

Tom had told me that this market was large.....ummm, that was a complete understatement - the place is HUGE!

We spent over three hours walking around and looking at a w-i-d-e variety of items.  I mean everything from car parts to puppies to antiques to absolute junk.  I have to admit at first, I wasn't very impressed at first but as we walked around, I realized the fun is in the hunt.  Then I found my amazing deal of the day!

I am always on the hunt for Delft blue china and can spot it from quite a distance.  Imagine my face when I found all of this...

I scored 7 pieces of china for $35!  All but one of the pieces is hand signed and numbered.  These were the pieces that my Mum and Dad always told me to look for.   I can't wait to add them to my collection.

Tom also had fun looking for fishing reels and poles.  No luck today, but he did find some Jeep Matchbox cars to add to his collection.  There were also several folks selling plants.  It's still a litte too early to start planting here, but we'll definitely be back in a couple of weeks to get some.

One thing I did see that completely cracked me up were the California Raisin figurines that Hardee's sold when I worked there way back in the day....like 1984/1985!  This was when I was in high school.  I remember having a set of them on the dashboard of my very first car.  Talk about making a person feel a little old!

Things are starting to bloom around the house.  We now know that we have Japanese Magnolias on either side of our driveway.

I've mentioned our awesome realtor, Alice Quinlan before.  Well let me tell you, this lady knows how to throw a St. Patrick's Day party!  It was also a great excuse to bake and decorate some sugar cookies - a new shape to master - I'll get better with more practice!

The weather is warming up, Tom has cleaned up the grill, we got some great new porch furniture and once the pollen has done it thing, we'll be spending a lot of time outside!

Toodles until next time.
