A new friend said that they were going to read my blog....I then realized that I haven't posted in awhile. Ummmm, that would be since August! Wow, where does the time go??
A lot, and I mean a LOT has happened since that last post.
My husband and I bought a house, packed and moved our stuff, sold our old house, and then went on a two week trip to Europe - PHEW! What can I say, I like to pack in a lot of stuff - literally and figuratively!
We seriously started to look for a new home in July. We had a good idea of the area we wanted to move to and became completely addicted to Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com. The first house we "thought" we wanted to buy was a flip and complete lipstick on a pig job. The moral of that story is to ALWAYS get a home inspection. Oh the things that it uncovered - all 64 pages of it! 🤯 The silver lining was we found an absolutely amazing realtor. We clicked with Alice right away and she went above and beyond to help us find our forever home.
The next house has just gone on the market and the buyers were "highly motivated" to sell. They wouldn't budge on the price (it was over market price) and were unwilling to make any repairs. Funny thing is that house is still on the market - yes, I'm still a little hooked on checking Zillow.
Third time was the charm - our new home went on the market on Monday, we drove up to see it the next day and put an offer in on Wednesday. After a little bit of haggling and biting our nails waiting for the VA appraisal to go through, we got the house!
Then the fun of planning, packing and actually moving all of our stuff began. We had lived in our home for 17 years and we are not pack rats. Still, when you start packing, you can't believe how much stuff you own. I got as brutal as possible in my craft room, and gave away quite a few things (not enough according to the hubs, meanwhile he was busy cleaning out the garage). My husband and I had a fun game of who could sell the most things on Facebook Marketplace. We made over $1,000!
We moved ourselves using UHaul and the great service that they offer where you can hire folks to load and unload your items. The teams that we hired on both ends were wonderful and there was no way we could have moved it all by ourselves. Let's face it, we're not as young as we once were 🤣
We were going to wait until the new year to put our old house on the market, but once we met with a realtor they advised us that there was an uptick in the market and sooner would be better. I have several friends who really came through with amazing recommendations/connections and we were able to get the house painted and the carpets cleaned in record time. We put the house on the market the day before Thanksgiving and ended up with 5 offers in less than a week. We actually closed on the house while we were in Germany on our riverboat cruise - thank goodness for technology, wifi and docusign! It was the most surreal feeling to sell our house this way, but when the money showed up in our account the next day - we knew it was for real 🏚
I'll do some separate posts about our trip but I did want to mention my one word for this new year. Of course, I have two this year but I feel that they go hand in hand. My Mum always used to say "Bloom where you are planted." I also feel like we are evolving into a new stage of our life in our new home, so I combined the two! I am going to bloom and evolve - kinda scary but always really exciting!
I look forward to sharing many more Wiseman Walhalla Wonderland adventures with you!
Toodles until next time.
